Portfolio Course
2008/2009
tutored by Gwen black, Mark Lomax and Roby Kennedy
The Portfolio Course is an intensive 16 week course suited to students wishing to develop their skills and stretch the ambition of their art work. It is also a course which can be used to build a portfolio of work for submitting with applications to Fine Art HNC, HND and Degree programs.
One of the most important objectives of the course is to establish in the student a working practice in art with a clear view of how to take and develop a subject, through different channels and thought processes, pushing ideas sideways as well as forward, and to bring together a cohesive or thematic body of work which is both personal and unique. All this is achieved through experimentation, personal response and an underlying technical skill base.
In the studio environment students will be introduced to a variety of media, processes and techniques to encourage the building of essential practical skills. Thematic study and personal projects will be used as a foundation on which to build their own particular artistic development.
Core subjects will include Drawing, Painting, Life Drawing, Sculpture, Printmaking and
Critical Evaluation. The pivotal emphasis throughout the course will be on personal development and every student will be encouraged to find their own interests, aims and ambitions in art while developing a singular approach, unique style and personal identity in their work.
By the end of this course, each student should have the skills to produce, present and discuss values and content in their own art practice.
